Abstract : We use natural language processing to perform an automated literature review of recent violent extremism literature. We investigate a corpus of over 3,000 articles (14 million words). We find over 25 distinct topics within this field of research with unique patterns of geographic coverage, author citation networks, and methodologies. We show how existing research is biased toward certain conflicts and methods, and how there are open gaps that should be targeted by future research.
